Public Housing Resident Services

The Area Housing Authority is a non-profit Housing Authority that is committed to helping our Public Housing residents move toward self-sufficiency by providing service-enriched programs. In conjunction with social services agencies throughout Ventura County and the community at large, the Resident Services Department has established partnerships to provide programs for our residents. The majority of programs are self-supporting or funded through grants.

Resident Programs for Families

The Area Housing Authority strives to help families build self-confidence and self-sufficiency through programs and services that empower households to build a strong financial and educational foundation. Some of our on-site programs are:

  • Career Training and Employment Readiness
  • Positive Parenting Classes
  • Financial Empowerment Training
  • After-School Tutoring Programs
  • Summer Lunch Programs
  • Internet Safety and Identity Protection

The Area Housing Authority partners with a number of community agencies and organizations to provide a full-range of services to families including:

  • Boys and Girls Clubs
  • Recreation Departments
  • Local Colleges and Universities
  • Churches
  • Banks
  • Social Services Organizations
  • Local Police and Fire Departments
  • Community Health Providers

Resident Programs for Seniors

The Area Housing Authority’s Senior Programs are designed to maintain the two most cherished life-style elements, a senior’s health and their independence. Health and independence are treasured by most seniors and are the measurement of their quality of life. Our knowledgeable and caring staff provides a variety of informational programs and social opportunities including:

  • Health and Well-Being Workshops
  • Free Screening
  • Transportation
  • Case Management and Referral Services
  • Community BBQ’s and Sing-A-Longs
  • Healthy Cooking Classes
  • Crafts and Quilting
  • Emergency Preparedness
