Family Self-Sufficiency

The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS) is a voluntary program designed to assist low-income families that have a Section 8 Voucher in becoming economically independent and self-sufficient.  With the support of local agencies, FSS combines case management, education, job training, and other appropriate services to aid the family in becoming self-sufficient.

This program motivates and helps participants to:

  1. Identify their career goals
  2. Identify the barriers which could prevent achieving their goals
  3. Identify resources and service that are necessary for the participant’s success
  4. Develop a plan to outline specific goals and objectives which are needed for economic independence
  5. Obtain supportive services related to their plan
  6. Track progress and receive encouragement and guidance through case management

The benefits of participating in the FSS Program are:

  1. Opportunity to obtain higher education/job training that will increase annual income
  2. Economic independence by moving beyond Public Assistance
  3. Increased self-esteem through successful goal setting
  4. Opportunity for receiving a financial incentive through an escrow savings account

Participation is limited and not everyone with a Section 8 Voucher will qualify for this program.   Contact your case worker for information about future orientation workshops.
