Fiore Gardens is a family public housing complex located on Hillcrest Drive. Built in 1996, Fiore Gardens is the last public housing complex to be built in California. Featuring Spanish-style architecture, the complex is comprised of fifty 3-bedroom units, of which three are accessible units. The units range in size from 1000 sq. ft. to 1159 sq. ft. In harmony with the Spanish-style exteriors, the complex features private patios and gated interior courtyards.
The site was originally a vacant lot owned by the City of Thousand Oaks. The long and narrow lot size made the property difficult to develop and undesirable for other projects. In addition, the lot was bordered by a sensitive wetlands area and a natural creek bed, both of which required considerable property improvements to protect. The City retains ownership of the land and maintains a long-term lease with the Area Housing Authority.
The property maintains affordability restrictions. Target households are at or below 50% of area median income.
